International Programs in the Atlantic
Region
All
international programs are founded on true
exchange--one in which learning can take place on
both sides. And there is so much to learn. For
example, here in northeastern North America the
concentration of land trusts offers tremendous
opportunity to share experience in the tools of
private land conservation. We can offer some
wonderful examples of community-based
conservation, coalition-building, and public
participation processes. At the same time, our
colleagues from other regions have shared with us
their experience in areas such as collaborative
management, trans-boundary cooperation, marine
protected areas, and the protection of working
landscapes. QLF's international programs are
integrated with programs in Canada and the U.S.
to bring this experience home.
Conservation
Study Institute
The
Conservation Study
Institute is a National Park
Service initiative based at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller
National Historical Park
in
Vermont. Its mission is to create
opportunities for dialogue, inquiry, and
lifelong learning to enhance the stewardship
of landscapes and communities. The
Conservation Study Institute works in
partnership to accomplish 1) education and
training, 2) research, and 3) outreach to the
conservation community. Joining QLF as
partners in CSI are the University of
Vermont and
Shelburne
Farms.
This partnership, and others like it with US and
Canadian NGOs and natural resource agencies,
builds on and enriches QLF's broader work in
stewardship in the Atlantic Region and
internationally.
